This laboratory is a collaboration between NUS and the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). SMAL conducts multidisciplinary research on systems modeling, analysis, simulation and optimization. SMAL's research focus includes optimal military storage planning and optimization, project scheduling and manpower planning, scheduling and reactive scheduling of multi-period tasks, and the applications of bayesian networks in military planning and operations analysis.
The research programs emphasize interdisciplinary approaches that combine techniques from operations research, artificial intelligence, and systems sciences.
The laboratory is currently equipped with SGI workstations and personal computers.
SMAL's current research projects include the following:
- Storage Optimization
- Project and Manpower Planning & Scheduling
- Reactive Scheduling Systems
- Vehicle Routing with Periodic Visits
- Resource Allocation in Combat
