Professor
Goh Thong Ngee of the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department
has been named one of the first Honorary Members of the Singapore
Quality Institute (SQI) at a ceremony held on 16 October 2003.
SQI
is the national organization for quality professionals. Previously
known as Singapore Quality Reliability Association (SQRA),
it was formed in 1971 with the encouragement of the then Minister
of Finance, Mr Hon Sui Sen, and under the leadership of Dr
Lee Kum Tatt, past chairman of the Singapore Institute of
Standards and Industrial Research (SISIR). Honorary Member
is the highest honour that SQI can bestow on an individual
for exemplary contributions to the quality profession. The
three recipients of the award this year are Dr Lee Kum Tatt,
Professor Goh Thong Ngee, and Ms Elizabeth M. Keim.
Professor
Goh, a former Head of the Department of Industrial and Systems
Engineering, is a member of the Quality and Reliability Engineering
Group. Internationally recognized for his work in Quality
Engineering and Management, he is an Elected Academician of
the International Academy for Quality and Fellow of the American
Society for Quality; currently he also serves on the editorial
boards of seven international research journals in his field.
