Abstract
Vertex method accounts for all possible combinations of vertices of fuzzy sets. To illustrate this approach an example of a semi-Markovian mechatronic system is considered. A four state semi-Markov model of a mechatronic system is converted to a Markov model using device of stages method. Vertex method is then used for fuzzy availability computation. The results are then compared with those obtained from alpha-cut approach. It is found that alpha-cut approach gives narrow bounds of availability compared to the realistic bounds obtained by the vertex method.
