THE MOST REWARDING IS A GOOD CAREER for all of my students and...

when a student has become "Favorite Professor"!

Some awards of my daughter in Nan Hua Primary School
(the award is for the total marks from four assessments in the year, and 3 subjects each - including components like oral, composition, spelling, written - this is the "system" here):

  • Merit Prize (ranked number one in Primary 1 in 2000) and first prize in Math and English;
  • Merit Prize (ranked number two in Primary 2 in 2001);
  • Merit Prize (ranked number ??? in Primary 3 in 2002 - she couldn't increase her rank to three, but still managed to enter Primary 4)...

And all my three children are in Singapore's Gifted Education Programme.

Ok, some of my awards, achievement and recognition:

Highest total score in China in the first nation-wide entrance examination to the Special Class of Gifted Young (Shao-Nian-Ban) of University of Science and Technology of China, in 1978; (for getting the highest score in the first round, I was directly admitted and "eliminated", and did not get a chance to take part in the final round...)

Awarded a very competitive scholarship for postgraduate study by the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, in 1984 when I was still an undergraduate student; (that is partly why I continued to study and stayed in academia)

First recipient of PhD in Quality Technology and youngest PhD graduate from Linkoping University, PhD awarded in 1987; (see my life as "guinea pig").

One of the first recipients of Lee Kuan Yew research fellowship in 1991; (that is partly why I came to Singapore and stayed here)

Listed in "Marquis' Who's Who in the World"; (last time it was in 1995 - don't want to be asked to give out my particulars anymore)

William Mong Visiting Fellowship to University of Hong Kong in April 1996;

Invited Professor to Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France, in March/April 2000. (sorry that I still can't speak French)

Best Paper Award at 2004AIWARM held at Hiroshima, Japan, August 26-27, 2004;

Elected IEEE Fellow;
